Four years ago I refinished a Pooley record cabinet but until a couple weeks ago I did not have an appropriate machine to display on it. Then with the help of a good friend and fellow phonograph collector I was very fortunate to come into possession of an early model Victor VI with a rich original mahogany finish (no refinishing on this machine).
The cabinet was in fair condition but needed refinishing so I chose to mimic the original mahogany stain then finish that with lacquer, sanding between each layer. Each time I increased the wet/dry sand paper to 1000 and then used pumice and finally rottenstone, with an oil and water lubricant, for the final finish.
What amazed me is how innovative the Pooley cabinets were, in 1910, at storing records and then making them available to the listener with the push of a button. And after 100 + years still working with only a cleaning and minor adjustments.
I would like to thank all those who provided advice to me when I was refinishing the Pooley cabinet. Unfortunately I did not keep notes of who helped me so I can not acknowledge them individually, but I would like to acknowledge all those who provide thoughtful advice to others on the forum, no matter what the topic is.

Sweet. I have the slightly larger model 60 Pooley Cabinet in weathered oak, yours looks like the model 50. I love the record selection mechanism it has, they're certainly heavy beasts even when empty!
Congrats on a great setup!
