Columbia B "Eagle" help sought

I just picked up a Columbia B player and am looking for a little help.

1) When winding the mainspring, after about a dozen or so clicks, the mainspring barrel snaps back quickly and then oscillates back a forth for a few seconds until it settles down. There is still tension in barrel as the drivetrain will spin when the brake is released. I am thinking that one of the springs must not be connected well and is grabbing and then releases when some tension is built up.

-Anyone experience this before?
-Can someone tell me the easy way to remove and disassemble the barrel?

I am hopping that I won't have to totally disassemble the player.

2) There appears that there should be a speed adjustment knob that is a missing.

-Can someone post a close up picture of it?
-Better yet, anyone have a spare?

I'm not quite sure what is going on in the spring barrels, but I think you are onto the problem. One is unhooked or broken and the other is carrying the load. On the speed control here is a close up of the speed control screw which goes through the vertical frame by the lower pulley.

Measurements: Total length .812"
Head diameter .440"
Thread length .375"
Diameter measured on the threads .110"
Threads per inch: 56

I see that one in your picture is not attached to a machine. Is it for sale perhaps????

Was there a spring around the shaft to offer a little tension/resistance?

I'll keep an eye out for one. With the details you provided, I should be able to find a screw that can be used to set the speed unti I obtain one.

Brad,

No, I just unscrewed the control off of my machine to scan it for you. There is no spring or added tension device....the collar from the spinning governor running against the end of the speed control has enough strength to keep it in place. I'm sure you'll be able to find one without much problem. I think the Columbia eagles are very fun little machines and it is amazing how strong they can be with those tiny spring barrels.
