square top Victor VV-IX ?

Post by phonophan79 »

I'm not sure I've ever seen this before, what's up with this machine? Is it legit? ie: did this machine ever get made with a square top? I'm thinking no... and I don't see anyting on the Victor Victrola site about it.

I think someone busted the original lid and cobbed up a replacement. At best it was done in the Orthophonic era in an effort to make the cabinet look more modern.

I noticed that listing too... and I agree, I don't think it's original at all. I've seen a couple of similar looking, square-edged covers for open top machines like the VV-VI, and they looked period, but were more than likely after market (if not private additions) mainly to stave off the dust when not in use.
