Oh, you know how it goes. I get infatuated with getting this machine completed, and I fall right into a "zone," and actually get the grille nearly finished after work! I'm letting the paint and shellac dry overnight. Tomorrow I'll bring gold to edges, tone it to an "antique gold" color, and add more shellac.

You are clever with your hands, there Mr M! I love the design of this grill...it's SO Wiener Werkstatte-ish/Euro Art Nouveau -ish/Arts and Crafts-ish. But it REALLY looks like something from Europe. One suspects that the Herzog (or Edison) designer spent some time "on the continent" in the first decade of the 20th century.

Peter Weber was the designer of the lyre-grill I-A cabinet.

Is the grill originally two-toned like that?
Looks great, great job and thanks for the pics showing progress.

phonophan79,
The lyre and oval on this grill was originally first natural, then painted silver, then painted gold. This machine was a prototype and the company was trying to determine what looked best and what was practical for production. The side vents are also gold.
Go to Wyatt's website http://www.edisondiamonddisc.com and follow the restoration of this machine from the original state I found it in through Wyatt's incredible transformation.

I have always maintained that like to see some "age" in my machines, however, for this one I must say, NICE!
