A horny Sunday
Snagged these two rather large horns yesterday in Milford, Pa. Both are in very good condition, no major dents but no makers marks (?) The nickel (?) plated horn is really nice and retains most of it's inside flowers.

The nickel/flower horn is a Hawthorne & Sheble. The Blue horn is a Standard Metal Manufacturing Co. The hangers tell the story.

I love them both especially that they have gracefully aged. Steve

Strange thing too - this is more of an indoor garage sale / junk shop and there sat these two really nice horns in the corner - just got lucky I guess. They both have great patina !!

Re: A horny Sunday
Judging from the photo, and from a H&S horn I have, those flowers are probably litho decals.
(That was generally cheaper than employing hand-painters)

Re: A horny Sunday
You're correct - those are indeed period decals. H&S used them on many of its horns, while Tea Tray publicly disdained them in its own advertising.Lucius1958 wrote:Judging from the photo, and from a H&S horn I have, those flowers are probably litho decals.
