That's a beautiful example of one of the most elegant machines Victor made. I had to drive about eighteen hours round trip to get my first one. Several years later a better example showed up here in town at a local estate sale. If it's not too soon, I might could help you in the search for your Vic VI. Wes

Mine is a family machine and so it is one I'll not sell. But someday, I wouldn't mind getting the finish restored properly. The Insurance company (after a family house fire) chose someone and did not choose wisely. Parts missing, wrong color etc. Part of me says to keep it as is-history of the machine. Time will tell.

Nice machine!

Harvey,

The machine was empty when I got it, but I added things to it, like the blank record index, a correct reproducer box, a manual, some catalogs, etc. I must have all of the goodies for all of my machines, it's a bit of an obsession 8-)

It absolutely does! After the requisite cleaning and lubrication, the motor runs about as quietly as any of these do. It has slightly less volume than some of my machines with larger horns, but I like that aspect. It's great for piano solos in the evening with a nice Cognac!

Matt,

A better restoration could also be part of the machine's history.

That's just beautiful! Coincidentally, I just obtained my first ever Victrola in May – an early VTLA much like yours! I have a small 1-bdrm apartment and I find the VTLA fits perfectly; I suspect any larger Victrola would be too large. I have found volume to be just about perfect with "soft" needles and astoundingly loud with "loud" needles! Still looking for a VTLA "wreath" key…
