Edison A150 question

Post by 52089 »

I know that the Edison A150 Diamond Disk machines had various parts that used the so-called "oxidized bronze" finish. I know the reproducer and horn connector were finished this way.

Were the crank and crank escutcheon also oxidized bronze? I ask because I have a crank in my parts drawer that appears to have signs of this finish and is similar to other Edison cranks.

Thanks for info in advance.

Frow's entry on the A-150 simply says, "Metal parts were gold-plated, or oxidized bronze, then nickeled."

That seems to indicate that the crank & escutcheon should match the other parts.

I can confirm that the A-150 crank and escutcheon are (at least sometimes) oxidized bronze.

I've either had or still have the following combinations of finish on A-150

Earlier oak
- crank escutcheon & crank oxidized
- speed control oxidized
- brake oxidised
- horn elbow oxidized

Later oak
crank escutcheon & crank gold wash
- crank escutcheon & crank gold wash
- speed control gold wash
- brake gold wash
- horn elbow oxidized

Two mahogany machines
crank escutcheon & crank gold wsh
- crank escutcheon & crank gold wash
- speed control gold wash
- brake gold wash
- horn elbow oxidized

Also, as with the Amberola III, some have casters and some don't.
