Just picked up this sweet little "untouched" Zonophone C.
It's nice to know that people are still pulling these out of the woodwork.
As my co-worker says, "Sometimes it's better to be Lucky, than good!".

I have had several C's in the past, but not this early version.
I like the petite little size of it!

I think it has Great Potential!
(In the last pic,I borrowed some parts from another of my machines, to show what it could be).

My advice: KEEP HUNTING! You never know what you might find!

Congratulations! That is an awesome little machine. I love Zonophones. I guess finding the missing parts will be a challenge for such an early machine.

Just an observation: the serial number, motor plate, and support arm placement would suggest that this isn't an especially early Zonophone.

Interesting cabinet. It's a miracle the celluloid plate has survived exposed that way!

Any Idea when this case was used for the "C" ???
Was it sold at the same time as the normal "C" case???

I have seen this case used on a very early Prescott tagged case with the flat bedplate, that's why I assumed it was early.

The Serial # of this machine is 6541

I just sold a normal cased "C" with the same bedplate, Serial #7049
And currently own a normal cased "C" with the same bedplate, Serial #8211
I also have a "B" with the same bedplate, Serial #8084

(As I understand it, this is the second style bedplate, with the under the bedplate spring loaded support arm)

I don't know when that cabinet was used for the C; I too have seen a couple of early Prescott-tagged Zonos with that cabinet design. Perhaps a few surfaced in inventory later on and were simply used alongside the conventional design? I just don't know.

That is indeed the second style motor plate, which again suggests slightly later production. Is there any possibility that the cabinet and works have not always been together? If found in the wild, I would assume they left the factory together.

I can't say for certain that they had always been together, but when I unscrewed the bedplate to oil the motor, I had to bump the case because the bedplate was stuck to it. Also, all the oil in the motor was dried out and stuck. I'm thinking that it was the first time the case had been opened in 100yrs.

It may very well be the factory using up old cases, as you suggest, especially because of the location of the placement of the celluloid tag.

As always, the more we know, the less we really know.
