Which Edison is this?

Post by BwanaJoe »

I am guessing some version of the Standard. Just curious and also curious how that cabinet works. IE: how does the lid close?!

Looks like a model D Standard that has been fitted into some sort of non-Edison cabinet.

I agree with 52089, it's a Standard D, or later, in a craftsman modified cabinet. Jerry B.

That sold at Stanton's one or two auctions ago.

Huh. I wonder if it works like some sewing machine cabinets where the top surround is split/hinged and the mechanism can then hang down in the case when not in use? Not my quite my cup of tea, but interesting nonetheless.

That is what I was wondering. Not a period piece then.

Yeah, I saw that one on the local Central Florida Craigslist...

I had to laugh when I saw it.

However, Its Model D Mechanism looks good if someone can find a clean D/E case for it.

It was hardly worth the asking price of $400-$450 what the buyer was asking....but there's always potential!

Definitely an item that is worth haggling with the seller over the price...

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it on a really good day...if that..

:o)

PS: I was wondering.....What's the deal with the lid on this one??? Just for looks??? or does the Phonograph lower into the cabinet when the lid is closed???? Signed, Confused!!!! :o)

The owner wasn’t very forth coming on details. I ran into that with a gent in Tampa and his Home as well. Good thing I’m patient and don’t “need” a cylinder machine.

The cabinet doesn’t look half bad. I like the Edison decal on the lid even. But, not much info on the machine.

Again, always the Orlando show coming up to browse through!
