Is there a way to estimate the date of manufacture of a Columbia Eagle based on the serial number? Mine is 158968 which is on the plate at the back of the machine. There is a place for a number on the belt cover but it is blank.
Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no precise dating method for Eagles, but your serial number suggests the 2nd half of 1898.

Re: Columbia Eagle Serial Number
Adding to what George said, on uncased Eagles ($10) the serial number was stamped on the belt cover. Cased Eagles ($12) had the number only on the plate mounted to the base, with the belt cover left blank. Evidently cased Eagles were far more popular since they vastly outnumber the uncased version.
