Thanks for the pictures Rich!

Can somebody tell me what makes that model of US Talking Machine so special (pricetag of $10.5K)? Please educate me.

Thanks,
Scott

If I remember correctly there are only five known to exist making them very expensive.

Some nice buys available. I made my best purchases in the parking lot on Saturday. Does it cost anything to set up on Saturday in the parking lot?

Hi Scott, The US Everlasting Opera is the rarest outside horn model. It was their top of the line model as well. Someone like George Paul who is much more edumacated than me,might be able to more accurately explain the details better than I , but I believe Edison shut them down quickly for using the name Opera. There are only a small number of these machines in existence, mostly oak, but I have worked on one mahogany one, and an empty case for another mahogany one surfaced in Ohio years ago. The other rarity is this example has a flawless reproducer. Most of them are damaged due to the pot metal deterioration in all the reproducer parts. This is caused by the use of powdered lead in the molds as a release agent. This machine is also in absolutely mint original condition as well as being so rare.
There are a few internal horn models that are just as, or even rarer.
Finest in music box and phonograph restorations for over 40 years

I love the Edison Standard with it's original Polyphone horns. This (I think) is one of the only original sets of real Polyphone horns still with it's parent machine since it was modified a century ago. These are not early Edison horns. They "appear" like early Edison horns, but they are a much lighter gage material, and they are still attached at the rim with the Polyphone factory supplied retaining ring. Very cool.

I've heard this machine in person and I love the sound created by the two reproducers.

I see Paul Baker sitting there by it too. If he's the seller, it's likely been perfectly restored. That would also explain why that reproducer is not in a dozen pieces as the usually are.
