Build dates on three early machines

Post by MikeB »

Hi -

Can I possibly get build dates for my three Edison suitcase models?

They are:
Standard Model A, SN# S 16801
Home Model A, SN# H 25353
Home Model A, SN# H 42455

Thank you!
Mike

I do not have the dates but you have some nice early models. The standard is a early two clip as the four clips came into around the low to mid 20000s I believe.. That is off of my memory and I am probably off somewhat. I have a two clip with a serial number that is close and it was made January 1900. Mine is 16566. That could be off by a month or so. There used to be an article on the phonograph society web site that listed all the early suitcase homes with there manufacturing dates. I think it was called The Sound Box. That was the quarterly that was produced prior to the newer quarterly magazine. It was authored by George Paul who is the expert on the dates of phonographs. Tom

Glad to help, but just to clarify, the original data that survives are SALES numbers from the National Phonograph Company. Certain models may have sat in inventory for some time before being sold. (However, in the case of Standards and Homes, that lag time was probably minimal - even in summer).

Standard Model A, SN# S 16801: left the factory in January 1900.
Home Model A, SN# H 25353: left the factory in January 1900.
Home Model A, SN# H 42455: left the factory in August 1901.
