O/T Trip to the American Histroy Museum in Washington DC

Post by Edisonfan »

Okay, I know this does not pertian to phonographs, but.... The American History Musuem in DC is not finished, but the building is open. Actaully, it re-opened last year. However revovations will be complete in 2014. The Star Spangled Banner, was put back on display last year. Now in it's own room. With some history, and artifacts from the war of 1812.

There is a nice exhibit, on elcetric lighting and Thomas Edison. New sicence exhibt. They have a nice Colombia, graphaphone. That was used for recording Esikmoes. Nice exhibit, on Transportation. There are still more renovations going on. The museum, has a nice example of an early Berlinier hand wound phonograph. It's in a glass case in the lower lobby.

Paul,
Thanks for sharing that info. I haven't been to that museum since 2004, & I see that things have changed. When I move back to the area I'll visit the new exhibits!

Sadly, I live right out side of the city (and go to work in DC every day), and I can't think when was the last time I've been in any of the Smithsonian's museums.
