Puzzle Blocks

Post by Gramtastic »

I know this isn't specifically about a machine but there isn't a section for phonograph related toys and I guess this could have been bought as a child's Christmas present so I will post it as a kind of Christmas challenge !
I have just bought a set of Raphael Tuck puzzle blocks where there are six different pictures to be made from wooden blocks. Two of them feature gramophones and I would like to get an idea of the date of the set. I know the pictures are quite generic but can anyone come up with a date from looking at them ? (The wireless is quite detailed if anyone is an expert on them and the racing cars are quite well painted.)
I suspect it is c mid 20's but anyone got a better idea ?
Thanks and Happy Christmas !

Very cool. I love them! I'd guess sometime around the mid-twenties. Jerry Blais

If the Victrola disn't come into wide spread use until the late teens, and the boat tail race cars went out of style in the early 30's then mid 20's would be about right. Does anyone know when radios like the one shown were popular?

The presence of riding mechanics in the racing cars suggests a date no later than 1925, when the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) abolished this requirement as far as Grand Prix racing was concerned. After that the mechanics stayed in the pits.

Radios like the one pictured in one of the puzzles would date from the early to mid '20's edisonplayer
