jerry im sorry i have fustrated you.it wasnt intentional. im not giving up on this project. i dont care if it takes me months. its been neglected and abused and damm near ruined. it deserves to be brought back to some kind of decent presentaton and respect . im TRYING TO LEARN. thats why i came here, since i cant find anything directly on a 210 victrola. this is all brand new to me . ive heard of.... cranking machines but i never saw 1 til 2 wkends ago. i accepted that challenge. just like a brand new parent.its going to take ALOT of time and patiences to get this back in respectable condition. thats why i turned to all of you. you all KNOW about phonographs. you all were probabaly raised with them . i am 53 yrs old. born 1964... when kennedy was shot... the beatles were hot... and viet nam was all the rage...i had a panasonic stereo system growing up. my grand parent didnt even have this stuff.they made their own music with violins , piano, juice harps, guitars, and singing. all i ask is patiences on learning about all this.again im sorry i fustrated you. it isnt easy at this end either. thank you .maybe helping send me to links you know about this would also help. i appreciate the help .

at $85 that is so cheap he must be charging $5 and hour for his time ! BUT it isn't a good buy as he says "THE MOTOR HAS BEEN REBUILT, CLEANED AND THE TWO 9' SPRINGS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT CLEANED AND REGREASED" and the motor is so clean ! The large gear needs GREASE Lubrication ! BOTH the springs must have been shortened at some time , the shortest spring for a 32 motor is over 13ft , I doubt if this would play a 12" record all the way through ! If at all ! The torque would be very low !

Caratunk,

You misunderstand my state of mind. Not frustrated at all. Sorry if it came across that way. I sometimes tend to write things in a matter-of-fact kind of way that sometimes comes across wrong. If any of this truly frustrated me I wouldn't post anything to begin with. But, because I see that you earnestly want to get this done, I'm trying to help you. Wanting to do it yourself is great and admirable. Just posted the motor "ready to go" as a possible option. Press on and come back for help when/if needed.

By the way, I'm 52, so we aren't so different in our experiences perhaps.

on my casing its stamped 17. is that per coil? or combined lenght?

The 17 on the casing is probably a cast number it isn't anything to do with the springs , posting some pictures would be great !

Actually, I believe "17" does in fact refer to the spring type, but I do not believe it's a direct measurement of the spring length.

The spring length is an important factor in motors , for maximum torque the spring barrel needs to be 50% full , a 9 ft spring would normally be in a spring barrel around 65 to 70 mm , a 14ft spring in a barrel or around 80 mm , so even a 14ft spring is not ideal for these motors . earlier motors with the same diameter spring barrel had longer springs up to 16ft

well guys ... ive been at it since 5pm its now 1040pm. i got to the motor and cleaned it. i got the casing off and set that aside and pour mineral spirits in a metal pan that was odorless;];];] and went to town with a tooth brush.... well i can honestly say there were CHUNKS !!! NOT PIECES ....CHUNKS !!!! of oil coming off that poor motor...in btwm the gears ... under the govenor... on the cork screws .. at first when i saw pieces ...im like ohhh nooo its broke !!! then i got looking and it and rubbing in btwn my fingers and saw it was chunks of oil !!! AFTER TWO SCRUBBING AND CHANGING mineral spirits..... i could finally see metal!!!! i ONLY took off the casing... i wasnt brave enough to mess with the govenor...and throw that out of wack. so with toothbrushs and tooth picks and q tips.. its all clean and shiny ;];];];] the casing ..if i can find someone... will be send to be done. since the motor was that CHUNKY.. I KNOW THOSE SPRING HAVE GOT BOULDERS IN IT.. no wonder it thumps !!!
i can honestly say it HAS NEVER EVER BEEN TOUCHED since it was made. i still need to get sewing machine oil and grease for it. but im pretty dam happy;];];];] I FINALLY DID IT ;];];];];] and yes it was messy . but ajax dish soap to the rescue;];];];] I DID IT!!!! my very first victrola;];];] ill sleep good tonight knowing its 3.4 done;];];] thank you all for your support and advise;];];];] my only real concern is those bearings. i dont want to mess up the govenor..im wondering if i load the sewing oil right to it .. if it would still be ok. i still CANT BELIEVE ..CHUNKS OF OIL!!! im just hoping the springs havent broke since ive had it. it still played before i pulled the motor.. just thumps. that when i pulled it out. something wasnt right. hope i didnt break them...thank you all... time for bed ;];];];]
