I found this round tipped needle in the case of my Columbia 140. Here is the picture.

It has a round tip with point that comes off of it.

Your picture is blurry, it would show up better on a white background. If the tip is actually round - like a little glass ball, then it is a Pathé type stylus. If it is not actually "round", but more of a point, then it is likely a diamond tip stylus for playing Edison DD records. Otherwise, it could be a tungsten tip needle... sorry, I can't be sure from your pic.

Looks like an "extra loud" tungstone.

To continue this discussion. I've got a needle similar to the one posted above. Also on hand are several wooden or hard fiber needles. I've not tried to use either of these as would like to hear from the collective wisdom here before I do.

Let's see if a photo posts below:

Dave,

Both of those needles look to be OK to use. The Tungstone needle is one that can be used multiple times without replacing it until the tip wears down. The bamboo needle won't hurt your records either...

Curt: Very good. I take it that the bamboo needles are good for only one play as well?

Thanks.

It depends- with the right record, in fine condition, with as little drag on the arm as possible (I disengage the auto stop on my credenza) I can get 2 sides. After that you slice the tip off with a needle cutter and use it again

Ah, very good. It seems there's always something interesting to learn on this mortal coil!

Thanks a bunch!
