Ediphones use a sapphire blade, that is Universal to all the Ediphone, and Edison business machine shaving machines, the hand powered ones, of 1905 to the ones of the 1950's. The long blade shaver though for four minute blanks, is just a metal blade, I have never tried one of those shavers, It might be good to try the box, long blade shaver with a moldy, common Gold Molded record and see if it shaves it off clean, find a few and practice on those before shaving good blanks, or as suggested sharpen the blade. I have never had luck with any metal blade for shaving. I know someone who suggests using a razor knife blade, but I wouldn't. It would be nice if new shaver blades were made or a large NOS cache of them found. My Ediphone shavers still get a few hours of use a week.

I've always wondered how in the heck those long-bladed
shavers could have ever done even a semi-decent job
of correctly shaving a cylinder.

It looks to me as if the handle puts pressure on
the blade without there being any sort of a positive stop
for the blade.

I seriously doubt that design of a shaver ever
worked very well at all. Great rarity of an antique
to be displayed in a glass case, but quite useless
and non-functional to do anything other than serving
as a curiosity artifact.

Right up there with 8-track tapes!

Does anyone have or make these sapphire blades? Sure would be nice to find about 20 of them...

Thanks for this information. I think that is make for very hard cylinder. And i agree. It is more a collectable shaver... And not a "useful" shaver.

I sure could use some shaver blades, my shavers gets a minimum of 2 hours a week use, and in busy seasons, can be more than that.
