Very Creative GEM Spring Repair

So, a fellow came into my shop with an Edison GEM B that would wind up but wouldn't run. Turns out the previous repair job was the culprit. Apparently the looped end of the spring broke off so they bent the end of the spring and pulled it over one of the gear cluster support posts and hooked the end of the spring on the pulley gear shaft. Never seen that before. Not surprising that it wouldn't run.

Well, it was a crappy repair, but maybe it worked long enough to keep the poor thing from being tossed out. You can be glad for that!
