I had to stare at it a while, but think I've figured it out. The motor board has been lifted out of the cabinet and is resting forward and to the right of its installed location. I think that there is a space to the right of the motor board (when installed) for the storage of an album. Check out the rear picture where you can see a some wooden guides for the album.I can't figure out what is up with the hole on the left side next to the motor board. Looks like something is missing.
