You know the old saying----I could kick myself in the xxx, and there is your answer. Enjoy your decision along with the music. Merry Christmas

If it is going to be transported, make sure that the motor board and motor are removed, the reproducer is removed and the tonearm is secured so it won't move. Also, the machine should be laid on its back and the lid secured so it won't pop open. The albums can stay inside, as long as there are no records in them, also remove the needle cups before securing the lid... You may already know this, but it never hurts to mention possible transportation problems.

The L-door is more desired as a collectable

The XVI will sound better- and an oak case is far less common than mahogany on a high end machine.

+1 on this for me. If you want a more "interesting machine, it's the L-door. If you want better sound, it's the later XVI. The horn on the L-door is way too small!

I have a 1909 L-door, and while the horn is small, the sound quality isn't as bad as many comments were leading me to believe.

No, it's not like an Orthophonic, but it's not unpleasant.

Especially with a well-rebuilt reproducer.

I have no regrets with my L-door.

I also have a nice 1918 XI and a 1914-ish XIV, both of which have larger horns, but I play my L-door more.

Your mileage may vary.

i'm a little late chiming in. Get the L-Door. This is an interesting variation, a late one. This one has the tab brake and the automatic stop. This variation was made a short time, before the more conventional VV XVI's came out. Most L-Doors have the bullet brake, but not many with the tab brake. These albums might be correct, because this is a late one.
