Edison Ad for Christmas '07

Post by Lenoirstreetguy »

This is a great graphic....Rose O'Neill is the illustrator. I like her stuff a lot. She designed the Kewpie Doll and made herself rich as an illustrator and then lost most of it in the 1930's. In the years before 1930 she was one of the highest paid illustrators in the business.
This ad was very hard to scan and I wasn't going to unbind the Everybody's Magazine in which it lives.Too bad they hadn't run it in colour: it's very appealing. Note this was the time when Edison had just begun to supply the larger horns with the machines rather than making you buy it as an accessory.

Here is the most true part of the advertisement:

"No other gift will give so much delight for so long a time as an Edison phonograph."

Gifts these days are disposable. Imagine an iPod claiming that it could provide entertainment for over 100 years. Anyway, thanks for posting!
