Can someone tell me what kind of cabinet this is?

Post by EdisonWizard »

This is for sale locally for cheap. I figure it'll be a good place holder till I can buy the Herzog cylinder cabinet I want. It's wider than it is long so it made me think this was a cylinder cabinet, but the insides confuse me. I'm sure one of y'all have seen this type before.

That looks like a cylinder cabinet to me, or perhaps a sheet music cabinet. Either way, I think it is missing its shelves.

I'd suggest taking a cylinder carton with lid and try to estimate if it would fit in a closed drawer. Does it look like the top and, in particular, the back board are original? Usually a piece of furniture with a back board is for sheet music. Jerry Blais

I haven't went and looked at it yet. I plan to this week. I figure if take a cylinder with me, and if it will fit, I can always take the one shelf it does have and use it as a template. They said the bottom piece just slides in on the sides...not sure what they mean. Dimensions are 20x15x39

An opera base is 18x12 ¾ so it should fit perfectly for the time being. Not sure how sturdy it is...maybe I should just wait on the Herzog and just keep it on a nightstand for now lol

Thanks! Unfortunate for my needs, but I'll just save that for the better cabinet!

I agree, sheet music cabinets usually have that rear board and the shelves look like it as well. However sometimes these are piano roll cabinets as well in that period.
