Nothing like bragging to the stroboscope set that "My phonograph has a working TACHOMETER!" :ugeek:

You may wish to crop out the paper between the cabinet & motorboard. I put that there so the machine wouldn't creak while being wound.

The restoration involved the original speed dial, a copier, cardstock, and a cast iron skillet. The skillet held the curling celluloid dial flat so the copier could take an accurate image. And yes, if that ain't Southern, that's "Are You From Dixie" on the turntable--my favorite pop song of 1916.

Here's a nickel bullet brake from my very early Victrola IX.

Nice! I didn't even know that the IX came equipped with that!

I don't think many IXs did. I really don't need this guy, and I still haven't found a proper base cabinet for it, but I like the early features too much to sell it. It runs very quietly and the finish is pretty nice too. Hopefully I'll find a base for it. Here are photos I took when I got it (after some GOOP, of course). I have since touched up the needle runs on the inside lid, which weren't all that bad. If you're interested, I also have photos of the interior, which might be useful. These don't have floating horns like later models have. And the motor is very similar to a Victor III, I think.

Wow! That is a very nice IX. It has that early style crank where the handle is made of mahogany rather than being black, and since it has a bullet brake it couldn't be any newer than 1911.

Very nice! The stands seem to come up quite often on craigslist and similar, but they seem to come with another IX most of the time. It's a really nice machine!
