Exaggeration or clueless?

Flash shots always seem to highlight the worst details. The dust inside the horn probably wasn't all that obvious but the flash brings it out.

Whenever I sell something online I never use flash unless I have to. Especially phonographs and things with a wood finish. I try to use my camera in a well lit area without flash. Those tend to be much more true to life. The flash makes the wood look like a completly different finish / machine.
