You also may want to check and see if the belt is hitting the casting when it is spinning. The pulley can be moved somewhat to get it away from the casting side when it spins from the lower pulley to the upper pulley. That will cause an erratic movement and binding. Tom

I’m not a repair expert but another thing you should check is the brass wheel on the belt tensioner. You want to make sure it is spinning and moving freely. I have found several that were either seized completely or sticking causing the speed to be inconsistent.

Tom - I did that, and it seems that has at least calmed the issue for now
