So I bought a little Standard Model A from Orthosean--an early green oak one in the New Style case. It's pretty cool.

Horn from Gramophone-George...

Restored reproducer from Stephen Heatherly...

Patch job on the bent driveshaft from me...

And yet another Edison Phonograph has re-joined the ranks! Pics to follow.

I'm glad this went to someone who wanted a nice machine to "save". If I didn't already have my fill of Edison cylinder machines, it would have stayed with me and been gone through. The case condition and green oak is what made it so special in my opinion, I haven't seen one so nice in years. Looking forward to photos!

Well, "save" was done when you snagged it and put it back in collector circulation. I'm just a parts changer...
But anyway it was blasting Collins and Harlan a second ago. Nice shiny brass horn, a rebuilt reproducer, and some good-condition 1906 wax records...Ain't no Victor Victrola, sound-wise, but I must say I've heard worse!

Already sent off for a couple Edisonia Records. Yes, the fellow in charge wrote back. I'm glad they're not entirely dead yet. Vulcan Records is another--I've wasted a little too much time reading their catalog but have settled on a few good cylinders.

It'll be a good project to clean up. I wish I had a digital camera to get the pics for you, but it's not going to be too different.

Do you think repainting the bedplate and putting Gregg Cline's decals on it would be a good idea? I don't want to touch the front decals--they look wondeful--but the bedplate is admittedly a little rusty. Just checking before I really mess it up.

I had a Standard D that came from the same house your A came from. Both were equally filthy from 50 years of being stored where they were. The D cleaned up beyond my expectations. I would disassemble the upper works completely and clean everything thoroughly first. I know the A had some rough spots, but you'd be surprised sometimes at what just a simple cleaning will do. If it doesn't help, then yes, by all means to the Cline route. His decals are top notch and you'd certainly not be hurting anything if it still looks grungy after cleaning.
