A new toy! Edison C-250 Labaratory model

Post by OldRestorer »

Hello everyone!

I just picked this up yesterday... Do I need it? NO..
I saw this months ago on LETGO and contacted him. He was away and by the time he got home the movers had put it in a POD while he moved houses.
In that time I forgot about it until I saw it pop up again. Someone else had posted about buying it from here or facebook and said they were getting it so I bowed out. I saw the ad on Friday and was surprised. I contacted him to see if it was actually still for sale.
He said come get it for $200.00 so on Saturday I did. I was not thinking good things when I got there and it was under a tarp in the back yard. I looked it over and there are broken and cracked off pieces of trim, The reproducer diamond is broken off, the main spring is broken, and the lateral head is missing. (update! Spring is good) crack gear lock is broken)
I said I could not pay that because I did not need it and there were some costly issues. He said to throw a price so I did and he said ok.. If he left it outside for a month I figured he would not care what he would get for it. I also bought 11 DD's and 4 are Christmas! I only have 2 Christmas DD's so this is great. I only wanted the 4 but he wanted them all gone.

I will do a restoration thread when it gets warmer but where do I put it? I don't see a restoration topic.

Here she is before and after a good GoJo cleaning

Nice early C-250 with the gold pin-striping. Well worth saving from the elements. Just goes to show that good stuff is still out there.

Sweet find Kirk, I'd enjoy seeing the restoration process of this.
The restoration threads I've and some others have made are usually put in the Machines
section.

Cool score! There's one of these near me in great shape full of records for $350, but if I bought it, I'd be sleeping out on the deck. My place is over-full as it is. Wanted to say, too, I have both the Philco 90 and 60 radios, as pictured in your post. Good luck with the resto!

Very nice! :D

Paid $100 for mine a few years ago; but I had to replace a good deal of veneer...

1000 thanks to a member here as I finally got my pawl.
He was amazingly gracious and just gave it to me along with the Kent adapter I needed.

Thank you sir!

I dont know if this video will post but I am super happy! I borrowed the reproducer from my other Edison to play it. Steve has my original reproducer... or he will in a day or so

Here is the video:
