victrola no 2 reproducer

I have a vv 50 victor portable,my question is the reproducer can move from the steel needle outward position maybe 10 degrees down toward the back of the machine?is this to be able to play a diamond disc needle also??

No, the VV-50 cannot play any vertically-cut record without a special adapter. The movement you describe is the bayonet mount that attaches the sound box to the tone arm. By rotating the box counter-clockwise a bit, it can carefully be pulled off the goose-neck.

For playing records, the sound box should be rotated as far clockwise as it will travel so the steel needle rests in the record groove at this angle:

Note that the sound box in this picture is unrestored. If you're playing records on your VV-50, you'll want to rebuild the sound box. It's straightforward and inexpensive.
