Edison cylinder recorder cutters

Post by Chuck »

Is there a new source for them?
Rumor has it that there's a guy making new
ones and he'll maybe sell them one piece at a time,
no minimum order.

By the way I know of a good source for
two different styles of genuine cupped-point
sapphire recorder cutters. They are available.

The problem with those however, is that they only
start to become reasonably priced when purchased in
lots of (25) or more.

I've been attempting to round up interested parties now
for several years to go in together on a group-buy
for some of these. So far there's been lots of talk,
but no serious commitments.

Anyone out there who's interested, send me a PM
and I'll provide all the details I have about them.

They are excellent cutters. I've tested them.

is there any ballpark figure on price? I would be interested in 5 if the price is reasonable.

Here's the most recent price quote.
I hope the file loads ok.

Please let me know if there's any interest.
I'll do my best to answer any questions anyone may have.

This has been a very long-term project.

We need to get the tapered price down to 40. That is absolutely reasonable. If possible, I am committing to 6 tapered cutters.

The only way to get the price of the tapered-hole
cutters down close to $40 each is (as stated in
the RFQ), when the quantity reaches (50) or more.

The manufacturer of these is adamant about this
schedule of pricing.

So, if we want tapered-hole cutters for around $40
each, we now need to have enough interested parties
to order at least (44) more of them since Teak wants (6)
of them at that price.

I'm in for two. So what do we need now, 42? It's a long way to Tipperary but we'll get there.

I sure people have done the glass rod thing (I never have found the vial of glass rods mentioned in the Compleat Talking Machine so I've never done it myself). But these sound like they will be a lot better and I should think a lot of people on here would want to upgrade!

I would be interested in 2 and possibly three cutters.

I don't understand why there is any hesitation. It is practically free money, rebuilding the very cheap bodys.
