My Perfection phonograph *RESTORATION begun*

Post by OldRestorer »

So we are all probably familiar with this phonograph.
I ended up buying it from Brian at the show. I was super excited to check it out that I tore it apart when I got home. It is amazing the way it looks when it is in pieces. There is very little to it and it is a dirty little thang.... I am now working on dismantling the motor since it keeps slowing and then speeding back up. It is also noisy right now. The finish was poly'd long ago and even has some delightful globs with bristles in them,

I cant wait to restore her right and get a record on. The best part is that when I bought it Brian said there was very little sound but the reproducer was rebuilt. I opened up the cabinet and boom. The horn neck was broken off and the horn hole had shifted away from the tonearm hole.

Nice machine you got there! In my experience, when a machine slows down and speeds backs up it tends to be a gear that has messed up teeth or is bent slightly (such as the main drive gear).
