Today's Find - VV-XVI L Door c.1911

Post by CDBPDX »

Just brought home a nice Victrola VV-XVI L-door today, a mahogany cabinet from 1911. Had to go 175 miles south to get it, but it's pretty cool. Bought it from a grand daughter of Quanah Parker (age 84). Spent a lot of time with her listening to stories of her childhood in Texas and looking at her momentos. A pretty cool afternoon and well worth the trip. And I acquired a cool phonograph.

According to the patents sticker and serial number 41220C, it is from 1911, but the barrel brake was not used after 1909...??? Does NOT have a round hole Exhibition reproducer.

The tab brake succeeded the barrel brake around 1912.

Congratulations! I also have a 1911 L-door serial Numbers 42570 C. It also has the bullet brake. I think the tab brake started 1912.
