Recommended spring status

Post by callron »

I have a working Home D that I plan a cosmetic refinish on in a few months.
My question is what is the recommended status of the Spring Motor for an extended period of non-use?
Completely wound down? Partially wound? Fully wound?

Mostly to fully wound down is ideal. Definitely never store it fully wound.

I agree with Andreas. Let it wind down, but sometimes letting it wind down too much could disengage the spring.

I've never had a cylinder machine's mainspring disengage from being allowed to wind all the way down, but disc machines are a different matter! ;)
