Looks like you made some real progress. As for the YouTube poster's comment about it's sound quality, the 8-4 DOES sound very much like an electrically amplified phonograph once the reproducer has been reconditioned and the horn re-sealed (if needed). In fact, when it was first introduced, the VV-8-4 was next in line to the Credenza (8-30), in terms of sound quality. Not as much bass as a Credenza, but still very audible.

Here's a pretty good idea of what to expect once the reproducer has been rebuilt -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6rijSvxv04

Here's another VV-8-4 playing "Rock Around the Clock" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbXSWRKFC9Q

BTW, I have a few doo-wop records that I play once in awhile on my VV-4-40, which has a smaller folded horn and slightly less bass. There's no distortion--no blasting, no rattling, no buzzing, etc.--when the records are played with a medium tone needle; really none even with a loud tone needle--it's just TOO loud, for my ears. It sounds very much like a jukebox playing, as does the 8-4 in the second video.

Thanks for the clarification.

Hopefully, someone will steer the Victrola's owner to this forum.
