Post by Vinrage_mania »

Well the little machine has a horn !( thank you Hexaphone) ,and because no two of these machines are the same(top slot ) Nipper is dizzy from being upside down ...currently it has to share an exhibition reproducer but it plays ,are the motors always this noisey??.....I was curious does anyone do a nice job re painting this horn?

That's a pretty decent condition original horn: I would say leave it alone.

It's a fine looking little machine just as it is. My suggestion would be to not repaint the horn. This advice comes from someone that has repainted quite a number of horns. I would like to think that every repaint was needed but I'd also say that every one looked repainted. I've tried aging new paint with fair results but it's still a repaint. I believe you should enjoy your machine just as it is.

I'd leave it. I repaintd my Victor III horn but it was rusted through to the metal in too many places to save--the whole thing was the color of sand and dirt. Yours is charming.

The machine is beautiful; the horn is beautiful. Please don't even think about repainting it. The Patina Police are building a case as we write.

Edit: love that Zenith tombstone and that whatever-it-is with those big EL-34s(?) in the background.

If you really don't like the upside down decal you could reposition the little locking button (don't know the real name) at the small end of the horn. A skilled person could move the button so the decal is displayed on the other side of the machine and right side up. Just a thought... The modification could always be reversed.

Your Victor O is a really late one. Note the Aluminum ID plate. Also, the crank and motor is from a Victrola IV, These motors are usually quiet, because of the finer cut gears. The motor probably needs a good cleaning. For a machine this late, the Exhibition is the correct reproducer for this. You might be able to get by with a No. 2 reproducer, because these were made at the time of this machine. Is your motor board hinged? I, too have a late Victor O with a hinged motor board. Does your machine have a paper label on the bottom with a date on it?
