I would prefer to have a little of both ,sometimes old original beat up untouched looks very appealing to me ! So i say both!!

I like common pristine, but find it fun to clean up uncommon machine and help make them pristine. Major overhauls are not my cup of tea.

Re: Which Would You Rather Own?
I would always go for the rarer machine. I found an Edison Idelia in pretty sad shape and was happy to get it! The horn was bad, case was needing refinshing, and corner posts on two corners were missing. The oxidized finish was still good but worn in places. These machine do not turn up very often. Some hold them as the holy grail of Edison, but for me they are just fancy Triumph machines. I sold it back in 2004 for a nice sum. By the way I started collecting phonograhs back in 1962 when I was 13 years old! At one time I had over 150 machines but sold most of the collection before 2008 and now have only 14 machines.
