I might be able to grab a little vv1-4. I have to say I am completely unfamiliar with these. I should be able to get it under $50, I needs some cleaning etc. What do y'all think?
As always thanks for any info!

Are you sure it's a VV-1-4? Those almost never turn up. Here's the information about it --

(Note, the example shown on the Victor-Victrola page has the incorrect reproducer. It should have a Victor No. 4 reproducer.)
If it IS a VV-1-4, I'd grab it for $50!

What a shame, but, many thanks for posting the photo!
Up until a few years ago, the VV-1-4 was one of those mystery models about which practically NOTHING was known--no photos, no illustrations. Your photo confirms--along with some that I found today, online--that the VV-1-4 was fitted with a pre-1925 style (goose neck) Victor tone arm along with the #4 sound box. One would have thought that Victor would have used the same style tapered (swan neck) arm fitted to the VV-1-70, but I guess they were still shunting off their older components to the export market.
Here are a few more photos --

Based on the photo of the underside of the cabinet, there was really no attempt to install a tapered horn (or even a horn, really...) --
-- As with the early model VV-IV, the motor was suspended in the "horn" chamber. It couldn't have sounded that great; certainly nowhere near as good as the VV-1-70.

Interesting... I just received an email from an address I didn't recognize with
no message or name--just a jump to this craigslist ad for a VV-1-4:
https://nwga.craigslist.org/atq/d/victo ... 82614.html
This one has a faux mahogany finish --
The sound box seems to be in very good condition with no visible signs of pot metal deterioration.

HA! I saw this as well! I was just getting ready to send you a link. Not a terrible price if you are in Georgia.

Seems like quite a few are turning up.
Can anyone confirm whether the #4 sound box is brass or pot metal? The ones in the photos posted seem to be in very good condition with no signs of swelling or cracking.
Thanks,
OF
