Interesting Victrola Dealer Tags and Labels

Post by MikeB »

My Victrola IV has this metal tag from the original dealer. Apparently, this was from an undertaker who sold Victrolas on the side, or vice versa. Maybe grieving widows proved to be easy prey for talking machine salesmen. :D I have been attempted to sell this rather ordinary machine on many occasions, but this tag holds me back. I was wondering if anyone else had equally interesting dealer markings on their machines.

I have several machines with dealer tags, but none as cool as this one!

I know it's not a dealer tag but instead I have a brush, likely a promotion giveaway with similar offerings from this dealer.
Mike, if you want to sell it, I'm a buyer. Joe

Not as cool as an undertaker, but still a strange combination of products.

Jerry Blais needs one from this store! He collects both phonographs and bicycles!

These are the only dealer labels in my collection.

They are interesting to me on several levels.
  • 1) Arizona was still a Territory (Statehood in 1912).
    2) The dealership change hands (1908) and here are labels for both owners.
    3) I wonder how many of these labels were use Miller-Sterling before they spotted the typographical error and/or received replacements?
    4) Local interest (Arizona is where I live).
