I have the following cylinder phonographs, which ones would you prefer the most? And why? Which models are the best for being a robust machine?

Edison Standard A
Edison Home B (with 4 minute set-up)
Edison Fireside A
Columbia BK

I have several cylinder machines but my favorite by far is a Triumph D2 with O reproducer and cygnet horn. It has a strong, quiet motor. Easy to change between 2 & 4 minute cylinders and sounds really nice. Doesn't take up a lot of room. If I could only keep 1 cylinder machine, that's the 1 I'd keep.

Not much beats a 2/4 minute Triumph with a wood cygnet horn.

I don't see Triumph on the list...

Of your four machines I would select the Fireside. It was introduced late in the horn era and is much more uncommon than a Standard or Home. Since it’s a 2&4 minute player it is versatile, compact, and robust. It has no flaws.

Jerry:

I was thinking the same thing, I think the Fireside is the best machine for that robust, versatile and compact cylinder machine.

I think a Triumph would be nice but they are not in my budget.

+1 the Fireside.

The last cylinder player I bought was a Fireside Model A and I finally just recently put a cygnet horn back on it (it had the holes drilled already when I got it but no crane/horn). I love it. Sure, you have to wind it more than a Triumph, and it's got a smaller motor, etc.--but it also takes up less real estate than a Triumph. Fantastic machine. I almost exclusively use this machine now.
