Sandpaper grit for cylinder reamer

Post by apruizii »

I'm trying to covert an Amberola 50 mnandrel into a cylinder reamer. Does anyone know what sandpaper grit to use?

Thanks!

Hi Adolpho-- First-- a mildly aggressive grit-- an 80 works well. A real fine grit gets clogged up pretty quickly-
Second--- I don't think your Amberola mandrel idea will work-- By layering the sand paper strips on the mandrel, you'll have increased the size of the mandrel.. reaming a cylinder to that size will result in a larger opening than the mandrel it is supposed to fit. The wooden reamers are sized to allow a snug fit of the record once it is slipped on the mandrel.

I believe I may have an extra reamer downstairs-- will have to look. Several years ago I had a woodworker friend turn about a dozen for me-- I think I have one left-

Give me a call.
