My VE 8-35 has the same manual, index and strobe disc, nicely stored since the beginning in its left-hand drawer.
It's one of my favorite daily players, combining electric motor convenience with superb Orthophonic acoustic sound. Thanks for posting!

This machine was discovered in a barn in the late 1970s still in the packing crate. It has some minor environmental issues, the grille clothe is like new except for some mouse nibbles. 8 of the original 12 record albums have survived, 6 12" and 2 10". One 12" album is like new, the rest are pretty worn. Plays OK, motor has a loud hum. Gonna have to fix that.

A common problem on those induction disc motors. A couple paper shims between the coils and frame should calm down the vibration. You’ll probably notice that the hum gets quieter when the motor warms up for several minutes, too.

Additionally, I replace the original motor board felt washers (between the motor and board) with neoprene ones, they'll also help reduce hum and general noise.

I'd tried soft wood shims, but have had better luck with harder bamboo shims, left over from making fiber needles. Tap them in very firmly and check your results as you go. Sometimes it takes three or four around each coil to really make it quiet.

I have used tooth picks with good results as well.

(from the radiola 47/67 service notes which use basically the same motor"The motor normally develops considerable heat during operation..this is normal and should not be misconstrued by the serviceman as a defect"

I just refurbished a similar motor for a customer. I replaced the original cotton/wool(?) shims on the motor board with neoprene, made some felt shims and installed them between the coil assembly and the motor frame, then made sure the rotor disc was exactly in the center of the coils. Also cleaned the rotor disc and lubed the end of the rotor shaft. When it went back together, it was extremely quiet. Hopefully, that will work on this motor, too.
