Have the chance to pick one up for $100. It’s in very nice, working condition. Is the Model 602 generally desirable, or fairly common?

Funny, my Columbia Phonograph Companion by Baumbach has the 601 and then skips to the 603. Could it really be a 612? It has flowers painted on the front door. So it is not very common, but not necessarily very desirable in terms of cash value. They are good quality Viva Tonal machines made for the new electric Viva-Tonal Columbia records. I own a Columbia Viva Tonal model 800, a very fine machine.

Baumbach's books was compiled from the information available at the time it was published, and a number of models are not included.

I'd say GRAB IT for a hundred bucks. It's a nice performer, much like a Victor Consolette.

Looks pretty much like a 601 (which I used to own), perhaps just a new number for the same machine, in the next model year?

Definitely worth $100. Would look into getting the reproducer rebuilt if it needs it, though.
