Sure looks like a VI---see http://www.victor-victrola.com/VI.htm .

Mauch Chunk, meaning "Sleeping Bear" (in the language of the Lenni Lenape, after a nearby mountain formation), is now Jim Thorpe PA, but locals around here still refer to the town by either name, interchangeably. It's a lovely little town, steeped in history, nestled in the Lehigh River gorge amidst some of the most spectacular scenery in the Northeast. It's about 30-35 miles north and east of Allentown. Maybe some descendants of John Yeuser still live there.

Love the photo! The young lady looks 11 or 12 to me so she would have been born about 1928 if the photo was 1940. She'd be 90 if still living. The whole photo shows an oil lamp next the the talking machine so possibly no AC electricity in the home. She appears to be in her best dress. It's easy to conclude that a humble Victrola VI was a welcome luxury to a working class family into the 1940's.

When it came to appearances Victor went to a great deal of effort. The humble Victrola VI was no exception. Jerry B.
