Deveneau Biophone and Deveneau Ideal Horn reunited

Post by Mlund2020 »

Presenting the Deveneau Biophone with attached Deveneau Ideal Horn. They make a great pair. Note the Pinkerton National Detective Agency issued wanted posters for Louis Deveneau “absconder and embezzler”, issued on Oct. 16,1909. Both English and French versions of the wanted poster were issued. Deveneau funded his phonograph ventures with money that he embezzled from the City of Cleveland.

Now THAT is a museum piece!

Shows that an "embezzler and absconder" isn't always totally worthless. did Pinkerton ever get their man?

I believe that he may have escaped back to his home country of France but I don’t know for sure. Pinkerton usually got their man.

It kind of reminds me of one of those Shopsmith's from the 1950's! It does all sorts of things and the table saw position will tear your arm off if you aren't careful!

It really is amazing to see the thing though. It's hard to believe someone went to the trouble to design something like that and market it.

The display is truly splendid!

That particular Ideal horn needed to be displayed on just that Biophone machine.

I am so glad to see that it made its way to your collection.

So, will you be posting videos of the machine both playing a cylinder and a disc? Fantastic Item. I love to watch the unusual treasures playing on YouTube. Thanks! Mark
