my turn table scratches the brake
my machine seems to play just fine except the brake or something is rubbing the underside of the turntable the full length of the play. I can see on the bottom of the turntable also where it has been scratching because there are shiny scratches from start to center. sounds to me like something must be out of adjustment or something. help me?(I'm new at this)it is a Victor VV-IX

Re: my turn table scratches the brake
You are likely missing the piece of leather on the brake. There is a small piece of round leather that will make contact with the underside edge of the turntable to stop it from turning when the brake is on. If the leather is there, you can soften it up by applying a little sewing machine oil and moving it out where it can make contact. With the brake off, it shouldn't make contact. If that's not your problem, if you will take the platter/ turntable off and take a picture of the brake mechanism it would help.

After you attach the brake leather, if it still rubs or scratches, the brake could be bent. I have ran into that problem many times.

I believe it was bent a bit. I straightened it enough its not scratching now(so far so good)
