I believe the decaled Victor Is were made for the US market. There were no HMV markings on them, and they were found here in the States.

Was there any indications on the machines with decals to provide the model?

Thanks, Jerry B.

Yep - stamped "R" just like the example shown on the previous page.

Jerry B. wrote: So has anyone seen an actual rigid arm machine with a Victor 1 ID tag? Is it simply Victor advertising that tagged the rigid arm R as a "Victor the First" which was shortened to Victor 1? Was the same true for other machines with the rigid arm? Was a Victor M with rigid arm called a Victor the Third or Victor 3?

Jerry Blais
Jerry,

Victor catalogs and magazine advertising always referred to back-mount Victors as "The First" or "I"; "The Second" or "II"; "The Third" or "III"; etc. We've all seen lots of Victor IIs with "E" stamped into the data plate, and lots of Victor IIIs with "M" stamped there. Like the other models, I'm pretty sure that, despite the markings, the "R" was a "Royal" only when equipped with a front-mount horn, and was always a "I" when equipped with back mount equipment.

Scott, That is one great looking Rigid Arm R!! I am partial to the MS rigid arm. I have always liked that case style.

Thanks Ken. Your MS is stunning. I agree about the cabinet, but I especially like the all brass horn. Those are hard to find and always wanted one for my R.

When Is A Victor 1 Not A Victor 1?
When it's the "rare" and "elusive" Taper Arm Victor "R"!

Very nice Bob!! This is the first one I have seen. Did you find it this way? It looks like it isn't a pre-dog model. Does the needle hit the center spindle?
