Sorry about the guest post. It's bob27556 (computer illiterate) trying to figure out the new format!

Hello everyone,

I found myself reading posts on this Forum quite often at the other board location. I never did register but today since this new board location was created I decided to join the party. I'm a collector of 18 years and still have the "hunt" in my blood to fuel the growing collection. I'm in Colorado and although in the old days Edison was probably the leader to advertise to the rural populations I still find many interesting phonographs locally as well as other parts of the country. My wife also collects phonograph related items, and has concentrated on needle tins and packets especially (1100 and counting). I hope this forum grows nicely and we all can contribute interesting topics and discussions. Thanks to all who have put in the effort to build this new forum.

It's not what happens to you; it's how fast you pick yourself up and get back in.

Thanks to Rocky I've found my way here; it should not be too much longer before the familiar gang is back. Very glad you've found a new and better home for the board. Maybe, just maybe, we can get to talking about what matters - old records and phonographs - and tell the small minds to "get ye behind us."

Bob,

I'm hoping we can get at least some of the posts from the ProBoards site. I had tried to open a dialog with an administrator there before the shut down. He said they chose not to get caught in the middle of something so decide to not host either forum at the present. He did however offer to make an effort to supply me with some of the content. I'm try to get all I can.

Shane, yes I just heard about you doppelganger. That's very interesting. I hope everyone is aware of that fact if it turns out it's an evil twin. (Did I just fall in to a Star Trek episode or something?) ;)

Bob, you're not alone! I totally botched my first attempt at this last night. Fortunately there weren't many witnesses. ;)

Regards,
John

Wow - you guys will let anyone join apparently!

OK, now that I have offended you George, do you have any plans of re-posting your pictures of phono-heaven? New and future collectors will want (and deserve) to see those.

Actually I would like to see a gallery or at least thread of photos showing different examples of phono displays. Not single machines but portions or complete collections. When I was first setting up my collection in our new house I scoured the internet for display examples. They are few and far between.
Ahhh...insults....I feel at home again...

Seriously, it's very kind of you to refer to our third floor as "phono-heaven." I'll re-post some photos (if necessary) after the smoke clears and we have a better idea of the forum's status and how much John was able to salvage from Proboards.

Best,
George P.

Edisonsquirrel wrote:I too will contact people to make them aware of our new home. Sure, it's a disappointment to lose our ProBoards site, but the setback is temporary. I want to thank John and MordEth for their hard work and persistence in the face of all the obstacles we've encountered. We are going to be a great phonograph message board!

:)
Rocky
well, (sadly) just watch who you contact in regard to certain people for fear that something else so ridiculous might happen again.

Personally, I like this provider better - sleek and more user friendly, also we can upload attachments with messages and do so much more. I hope we stay here

OK, let's give this a try. My thought for my first post here was going to be a plea to George to re-post his attic photos, but you guys beat me to it! Looking at all those beautiful phonographs...it's talking machine porn!
Hopefully John can eventually recover some of the data from ProBoards, but if not, all that info was basically submitted in five weeks' time as someone else pointed out. We can do the same here.
Regards to all and best wishes for our new "home,"
Bill

Edit: Hee hee. I love how my name appears right under the HomoPhone guy. That's NOT me! ;)

Folks,

I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to send you all personal welcome and thank-you notes! You all deserve that and much, much more! Thank you, Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement and support yet again. As you've no doubt read I nearly threw in the towel earlier. I'm not here to wage war, I'm here to talk phonographs, make friends and have some fun. There were some very hateful things posted on-line last night about all of us, but David and I in particular. It disappeared this morning. When I read it I thought, why bother? Is it really worth it? I've got my records and my twenty odd "projects" to keep me very busy for the foreseeable future. What changed my mind? Well two things mostly: Someone (I don't know who, but thanks!) recently reminded me of some very poignant words by a fellow named Martin Niemoeller and all of you and your faith in me. I say we stick together in the face of adversity and maintain our focus, our sense of fair play, honesty and dignity and get back to enjoying ourselves! This is not a competition or a race there will be no winner if it becomes one, only lots of loss. We have already lost so much.

ProBoards management is curt, to put it bluntly, but I was offered the chance to reclaim some of our work, but I have not as of yet heard back from them after I requested as much as possible. I haven't had a chance to look through everything posted yesterday, I've been tied up with your e-mails and PMs, so I haven't caught up with everything you've already restored. If anyone has any of the links not yet recovered could you please PM or e-mail them to me and I will consolidate the links with the ones you have already restored. We will set up a special forum e-mail possibly later today. I urge you all to save it, it will go to both D. and I directly so you will all be able to contact us in the event of a problem. There will also be a back up forum ready and waiting in the unlikely event we ever need it. Semper Paratus!!!!

I reiterate here-EVERYONE is welcome here. No one will be barred from joining. We will give everyone a chance. There will be no old grudges here. If anyone here has an issue with anyone still, fine, you are all free individuals of free nations and what you do outside this forum is not our concern, however inside is. My rule in here is still the good old fashioned golden rule:

Image

and remember to keep it PG-13, I know, I know, I'm preaching to the choir here and you're all probably sick of reading all this. Some say I should have been a politician ;)

One last thing before I finish up. It seems we may have a clinker or two among us as elsewhere might. As a fine gentleman I consider a friend said, it will not be tolerated. If I find anyone impersonating another member they will be gone for good. One strike, this ain't baseball. To the rest of you, sorry to pollute our new playground momentarily but the warning needed to put out there.

Again (Yeah, well I can't say it enough!!!!!) Thank you all. Remember please feel free to contact me at any time with any comments, complaints or suggestions. This forum is yours.

In Gratitude,
John B.
