Looks a bit like stripped mahogany to my eyeballs.

Sorry but it's poorly refinished mahogany. Always check the inside of the lid. The decal doesn't lie. Jerry B.

It's always painful to see a once beautiful XVIII stripped of its original finish. In heaven's name why. Duplicating the Victor factory's finishing process is not easy and getting back 100 years of patina can only be obtained by the next generation of collectors. Having said all that, it's still an XVIII and worth having because of Victor's cabinet work. Who suggested it was walnut? :roll:
