Curly Mahogany, Nice Surprise

Post by Django »

This machine was a recent ebay purchase. I bought it for the nice, original set of boxes and I intended to sell the machine, but I got cold feet, (I have a weakness for L-Door Victrolas). The last two images are from the ebay auction. It was never as red as it looks in the ebay pictures. I got a nice surprise when I began to clean it. The lid has a very nice piece of Curly Mahogany. I don't know how uncommon this is for an early Victrolas, (this is a 1909, B type). Anyway, I am glad that I kept it. I will have a replacement drawer on Monday. It cleaned up quite nicely. Any other Curly Mahogany Victrolas out there?

There are L-Doors, then there is your L-Door. That machine is amazing.

The aesthetics of talking machines in this condition conveys the elegance of these machines and the times in which they were produced--and has kept me attracted to the hobby over decades.

It is nice to find a jewel in the rough and be able to see it in good shape. Tom
