I have a vic ll with a nice original finish. What’s the best way to preserve the wood and finish?

Environment is the most critical thing. Just the basics of not too dry or too humid, no forced hot air, no direct sunlight, etc.

A coat of paste wax (Johnsons, Miniwax etc.) is helpful to protect the wood and bring a luster and it is reversible... No harm, no foul! It sometimes makes the finish really POP. Apply a thin layer of wax with a soft cloth, allow to set for 10 minutes then buff off with a microfiber towel. the wax can later be removed of needed with Naptha or other similar wax removal products.
