Can someone ID this machine?

I would think a soft surface might muffle sound quite a bit but not so much in the case of a relatively hard wood surface. I think it will affect volume (sound intensity) much more than it's impact on quality of sound (changing the profile shape of volume levels of equal interval frequency bands).
